Title: Combination License FAQs
Description: The following are frequently asked questions regarding the use and implementation of the combination license, which incorporates both Standard Edition(SE) and Enterprise Edition(EE) features:
1Q) How does the BLM determine which license to check out to a user, SE or EE? For example, if a user is running Pro5 and opens no files from other machines, then he is using an SE license. But what happens when this user opens a file from another system, using Data Server? Does he check in his SE for an EE license?
1A) A typical combination (SE / EE) license will allot a certain percentage of EE licenses that can be used per the total base pool of licenses. For example, you might have a 20-user combination license with the option to use 5 EE licenses. You still have a total of 20 licenses (not 25). When a user opens a connection to the Data Server, they will essentially upgrade their existing SE license to an EE license. So, the SE license is not checked in - it's upgraded to EE. The EE license is downgraded to SE when the connection to the Pro5 Data Server is closed.
2Q) How does the combination license work with FacetWin?
2A) Our licensing model has not changed with respect to Facetwin. You can have multiple Facetwin sessions from the same client and only check out one license. If a connection to the Data Server is opened, this connection will be upgraded to an EE and will remain so until the session(s) are closed.
3Q) Is there a command so I can force a user to check in an SE license? I want to make sure that my EE licenses are available to my BBj users.
3A) There isn't a specific command that you could issue to force a user to check
in a license (EE or SE). It's best to proactively configure you licensing so that actions like this will not be necessary. See Chapter 5. of the FLEXlm documentation, "The Options File." The Options file will allow you to INCLUDE a group of users - to allow them to use a certain feature, or EXCLUDE a group of users.
