Title:

How do I install the BASIS IDE?

Description:

Q: How do I install the BASIS IDE?

A: The BASIS IDE is a component of the BASIS Product Suite which can be installed from the product CD or downloaded and installed from the BASIS Web Site.

To launch the BASIS Product Suite installation from the CD, navigate to the /bbj/<latest_revision> directory and execute the appropriate installation launcher ("windows.exe" for the Microsoft Windows platform, "mac.command" for the Apple Mac, and the "unix.sh" for all other *NIX operating systems). Because the product CD contains every component of the BASIS Product Suite, the installation routine will automatically include and select the BASIS IDE for installation. Therefore, selecting the "Typical" installation type during the installation routine will result in the IDE being installed and configured correctly. After the installation completes, a shortcut to the BASIS IDE will be created on the Windows, Mac, and Linux operating systems. For all other platforms, a startup script named "basiside" will be created in the <installation directory>/bin directory. To run the IDE, simply execute the appropriate shortcut or startup script.

When downloading the BASIS Product Suite installation from the BASIS Web site, you must explicitly select the IDE for inclusion in the product download. After selecting the desired platform from the selection box on the download page, ensure that the "BASIS IDE" checkbox is checked in the "Optional Files" section. If the checkbox is not selected, the IDE will not be downloaded and will not appear as an option during the installation. If the checkbox has been selected, the download will contain the necessary files to install the BASIS IDE and a "Typical" installation will install and configure the IDE. Additionally, selecting a "Custom" installation type will reveal all of the components that are available for installation - including the BASIS IDE.
